You Can Help Support our Community of Book-Loving Black Women

About Mocha Girls Read
Founded in 2011, Mocha Girls Read is a book club dedicated to sharing the joy of reading and connecting with like-minded black women.

With 14 chapters across the US, we offer a platform for black women to come together and discuss their favorite books. From historical romance to self-help and fiction, we have something for everyone.
By providing a space for fellowship, both online and in-person, we aim to inspire more women to read and enjoy the many benefits of literature.
When you make a donation towards our non-profit, you help Mocha Girls Read keep our community free and accessible for all Black Women who love to read.

Because of the generous and regular donations from people just like you, the only expense to our members is the purchase of our Monthly Book Selection.

Thanks to your support, Mocha Girls Read book events remain completely free to Black Women who want to Enjoy A Good Book with Friends.

Community Building

We hold lively book club meetings where members can engage in thought-provoking discussions about our monthly book selection.

We host book club meetings at various times of the year with other book clubs.

We participate in two read-a-thons a year and co-host a third one with our Chapter Of The Year.

We host author chats, and book signings, and participate in other book events yearly.

Alysia Allen, Founder/President
After looking all over the internet for a book club, I found two and joined them both. They were really great and I made a few new friends. But, I noticed one thing about both of them. I was the only black woman of color, the only African-American, and the only mocha girl in the clubs. I thought about this and said, “Self, there has got to be some sistas in LA who like to read.” So Mocha Girls Read was born.
