Reading provides you with all the necessary wisdom and knowledge you need to thrive in this world of uncertainties. Most people only glance through newspaper articles to read breaking news headlines. While that is a good thing, there’s more to reading than meets the eye as most Mocha Girls know. Good reading habits involve a collection of skills that resonate through every facet of your life. When you are able to harness your reading skills, you become a language expert who can communicate your ideas effectively. Since today is the start of the 24 Hour Reverse Readathon we thought we would share a few ways to do that.
- Draw a reading timetable

As the saying goes, “Practice makes a man perfect.” There’s no way you can become a good reader without training yourself to be so. To effectively practice your reading habits, you will need to follow a carefully designed reading timetable. This should schedule the days and number of hours you have to read a book in a week or so. Whether your interest lies in fiction, nonfiction, or magazines, have a reading plan for every week and follow it.
- Set your reading goals
To widen your range of vocabulary, you need to set your reading goals right. For example, in a week, you can challenge yourself to learn new vocabulary from various subjects such as science and technology, business and commerce, and other important areas that appeal to you. Your reading goals define what you want to achieve from the materials you read. By setting your goals right, and following them, you can reach your destination.
- Buy your reading gear
You can’t hope to improve your reading skills when you lack the necessary materials like books. The internet age has further simplified how avid readers access reading materials. Thanks to this revolution, nowadays you don’t have to carry a lot of hardcovers with you before you can learn things. Simply acquire a smartphone, a tablet, or a computer. Then download free PDF files of your favorite books, and you’re good to go. You can also join book clubs, sign up for audiobooks from Audible.com, or even install Blinkist (a book-summary app for great thinkers).
- Improve your writing skills
This may sound strange, but believe it or not, mastering your writing skills is another way to enhance your reading skills. The point is that writers often read before in their minds and on paper (or screens) before they write. So by learning to write down the insights you gain from books, you are also improving your reading skills along the line. Assuming you are an avid writer who still uses a typewriter to do your typing work, then you will need to get the best typewriter keyboard. Modern typewriter keyboards are designed with the comfort of users in mind. They also come with long-lasting batteries to give you amazing user experience.
To summarize, great readers are on top of the world today, and one of the recommended routes to self-growth is through reading. You too can rule your world through a craving for books.
Don’t forget to sign up for the 24 Hour Reverse ReadAThon and get the snacks ready too!
